Earthquake Rocks Northern California

Two people are dead and 12 others injured after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Northern California this week. Thousands were left without power in Humboldt County. According to the USGS, the earthquake hit around 2:30 am off the coast of Ferndale, CA.

“This area is the most seismically active part of California,” said Keith Knudsen, Deputy Director of the USGS Earthquake Science Center.

Residents are used to smaller quakes in this region. It’s close to where the Pacific, North America, and Juan de Fuca plates meet, a spot known as the Mendocino Triple Junction.
